Chevrolet Leaf Springs

Leaf springs are a set of steel bars manufactured using spring steel. They are generally used on larger vehicles such as pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles or SUVs.

Generally with larger vehicles leaf springs are a set of leafs which get progressively shorter providing increased strength. They are attached to the chassis and the body and serve to absorb shocks from the road and keep the chassis at the appropriate level.

Chevrolet trucks and SUVs commonly use leaf springs for the rear end, although some models use them on the front end as well. These are used with the intention of providing a greater payload capacity and a smoother ride for a vehicle which has a higher than normal center of gravity.

Their design allows a more balanced distribution of weight and improving payload capacity due to the fact that there is less pressure on any given point of the leaf spring than would be found on standard springs on passenger cars. This means a greater amount of weight can be loaded into the vehicle without causing as much spring compression which would lead to the vehicle sitting too low when under load.
